Mercy Family Birthplace

BirthplaceDelivering nearly 300 babies each year keeps us in good practice to handle all your prenatal and delivery needs. Our Mercy Family Birthplace features the LDRP concept - labor, delivery, recovery and post-partum care - all in one comfortable, attractive patient room. The birthplace is strategically located on the inpatient care unit between two beautiful courtyards. Each room is designed for maximum privacy and comfort for moms, babies and visitors.

Many of our birthplace nursing staff each have over 20 years of experience in obstetrics and neonatal intensive care. All of the nurses are certified in the Neonatal Resuscitation Program.

Other Birthplace services include:

Antepartum testing - Sonograms, prenatal screening, lab work, etc. as ordered by physician.

Non-stress testing - Non-invasive pre-delivery monitoring to determine fetal well-being.

C-section deliveries - Surgical suites located for immediate access from birthplace unit; Obstetricians provide 24-hour coverage for your scheduled or emergency delivery.

Level II nursery - A team of pediatricians, family practice physicians as well as experienced NICU nurses provide care to your premature or ill infant.

Maternal & Infant clinic
- The M&I Clinic is a state and Mercy funded program that provides obstetrical prenatal care to the low social-economical families in our surrounding counties. We also provide pregnancy education, nutritional and social work counseling. The clinic is conveniently located at the physician clinic in the health center, 401 Woodland Hills Blvd.

Consultation/referral - Mercy works with Freeman in Joplin, Mo for high risk maternal and/or premature/critically ill infants. Several other Kansas City hospitals may also be utilized for the patients individual needs.

Lactation Counseling - A certified consultant can provide moms with expert breastfeeding information, support, and pumps/supplies for rent or purchase.

Prenatal and sibling classes - Classes are free of charge and taught by experienced labor and delivery nurses. For sibling classes, bring your child to the Mercy Birthplace and tour the unit. Involve your children in the very special time. Kids can color a special picture for the new baby brother or sister.
