community outreach.
Providing
service to those in need began nearly two centuries ago when Catherine
McAuley, foundress of the Sisters of Mercy, dedicated her life to serving
the poor. Catherine established the House of Mercy to reach out to people
most in need; the sick, the poor and those in crisis. Thus establishing
a tradition of service to others which today guides the Sisters of Mercy
Health System (SMHS).
In 1997, SMHS embarked on a new method of
accounting for those activities which affect the health status of the
communities we serve. As Mercy, we are called to reach beyond our hospitals,
physician offices and affiliated services to address our communities'
critical needs.
